Our Process
We take a different approach to ABA.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific (meaning, we look at data on how you do things and make decisions about what to teach or what to change) approach to teaching. We support you with the knowledge of HOW learning happens…our clients support us by helping us understand WHAT they would like to learn.
Our services are one option for how to approach learning, but they are not the only way! If Missouri Behavior Consulting staff are able to identify something that might work better for you, we will help you get in touch with those resources.
Our services start with assessment: we aren’t just looking for what is challenging, we also need to know what our clients love to do, what dreams they have, what skills they already have which can support their learning. It’s a holistic look at everything that is meaningful to the client, and the people who matter in their lives.
After assessment, we make a plan. This happens with the input and direction of the client. We use person centered planning tools and framework to help bring the conversation about short and long term goals to life in a realistic and approachable way.
Sometimes, we are asked to develop a behavior support plan in order to help caregivers understand how to support our clients. We will use our knowledge of motivation and learning to build a useful plan. In addition, we also will collaborate with our clients as much as possible to ensure that any plan is acceptable to them just as much as it is acceptable to caregivers.
We recognize that teamwork is important in building success. Because of this, we will collaborate with caregivers, school teams, employers, faith leaders, healthcare providers, or anyone else who supports our clients in order to help advocate for client needs and rights, and to help ensure all stakeholders feel heard, supported, and respected.
